Q: Dodge Nitro Gas Mileage- What are owners getting?

A: My in laws have one, about 15 around town and low 20's on the highway - and that's with a light footed driver.

Q: How ugly is the New Dodge Nitro to you!?

A: If you can call out of the ordinary "ugly", then I guess it is ugly in a good way. I have, and always will be, a MoPar (Dodge, Chrysler, Plymouth for you unknowing ones) fan. I do not like new cars but I must say the Dodge Nitro is different, and for that I like it. Honda Elements are ugly, Hummers are ugly, Blazers look the same as they did when they first came out, and those Nissan SUV things are pretty ugly too. You can't say that Scions are not ugly. I had better looking Hot Wheels cars when I was growing up in the 70's! Besides being a little different, the Dodge seems more practical than most other SUVs the same size. I test drove one recently and actually liked it. Lots of room for me (6'0 245lbs) and the kids. The wife loved it. There is enough room to be comfortable, carry stuff and not just look cool from the outside. We have considered buying one. It is a pretty tough looking vehicle if you ask me. If you want to drive around in a little "cute" girlie car go buy a Honda or a Xtera. If you are afraid to drive something that looks like it has some balls, and some attitude then take a closer look at the Nitro/Jeep (??). Just in case you may think I am being biased, I have been a mechanic for over 20 years. I have driven a LOT of vehicles. I may have my personal preference, but I can honestly say I have worked on far fewer Chrysler products in my life, than any other brand, including Mercede, BMW, VW, Porche, Jag, GM, Ford, Honda etc. I drive Chryslers because I don't like having to fix my own vehicles. I own 6 now, and will be buying another one real soon. As much as we liked the Nitro, my wife wants a RAM, so I'm gonna let her buy one.

Q: Should I buy a top of the line Dodge Caliber or a Midrange Dodge Nitro?

A: depend which one you prefer the looks of and prefer to drive. i would go for a top of the line car over a lesser car for the same value. unless you need a bigger car for whatever reason its better to have a cheaper car and spend the rest on accessories and extras

Q: Owners of 07 Dodge Nitro have you had problems?
Has anyone had any problems with the cooling fan constantly running when the car is turned off? What problems are you have or have you had any?

A: Go to dodgeforum.com they have a section for nitro and they really know what they are talking about, you will get allot more answers there. Good luck!!

Q: Which would you buy Dodge Nitro or Honda Element and why?
Looking to purchase one of these vehicles. Would love your opinions and input on which one to purchase if any. Or, what other suv would you buy at around $20k? Thanks!

A: This is another example of buying what would suit your lifestyle better. Both cars have ups and downs and are marketed to a completely different crowd. The Honda Element has excellent reliability ratins, plus good gas mileage and a very useable interior. On the downside, its looks aren't for everyone, and it isn't available with 4-Wheel Drive. Insteady, you have to buy one with All-Wheel Drive, and the Element already has low ground clearance. It's not even good for light-duty off-roading, and is better left to nothing worse than a dirt road. Also, you can't get one with four fullsize doors, but instead with the two suicide-hinged half-doors behind the main doors, and these don't open separately (you have to open the main door to open the half door). The engine is only adequate for this vehicle, and you can't find a performance version. Also, it has cheesy-looking plastic panels all over it. The Dodge Nitro is larger, much more powerful, and comes with a performance version called the SRT-6. It has a full 4-Wheel Drive system, though you'd have to find some All-Terrain tires to really take it off-roading (it comes standard with passenger car tires or optional performance tires). The styling is a little cleaner than the Element's, and the plastic panels that are on the vehicle are at least painted to match the rest of the body. Also, the Nitro can tow more and carry more cargo, but the gas mileage is a little worse. All-in-all, I'd say go for the Dodge Nitro if you enjoy light-to-medium duty off-roading, live in a hilly or mountainous area, and have to travel a ways to get to work. Go for the Honda Element if you live in the city, with lots of traffic, never plan to go off-road, and don't mind the plastic-panel styling. There are other major buys in the $20,000 SUV range. In the following list, I've included the drive system so you can pick out which would suit you better. Remember, All-Wheel Drive isn't suitable for anything other than very light duty off-roading, while 4-Wheel Drive will go from light to heavy-duty off-roading. Chevrolet Equinox (All-Wheel Drive) Ford Edge (All-Wheel Drive) Ford Escape (4-Wheel Drive) Honda CR-V (All-Wheel Drive) Hyundai Santa Fe (All-Wheel Drive) Hyundai Tuscon (All-Wheel Drive) Jeep Liberty (4-Wheel Drive) Jeep Patriot (4-Wheel Drive) Jeep Wrangler (4-Wheel Drive) Kia Sorento (4-Wheel Drive) Kia Sportage (All-Wheel Drive) Mazda Tribute (All-Wheel Drive) Mercury Mariner (All-Wheel Drive) Mitsubishi Endeavor (All-Wheel Drive) Mitsubishi Outlander (All-Wheel Drive) Pontiac Torrent (All-Wheel Drive) Saturn Vue (All-Wheel Drive) Subaru Forester (All-Wheel Drive) Suzuki Grand Vitara (4-Wheel Drive) Suzuki XL-7 (All-Wheel Drive) Toyota RAV4 (All-Wheel Drive) Note - Some of the models on this list, such as the Jeep Wrangler and Mitsubishi Endeavor, can be bought for just under $20,000, but a lot of options will push the price up into the mid-$20,000 range. Among this list, my personal top picks are the Jeep Wrangler and Suzuki Grand Vitara. They're both cheap and relaible, and they will go places most SUVs would never dream of. If you have any more questions about any of these models, or any other models I haven't listed, please feel free to ask.

Q: Who thinks the commercial about the Dodge Nitro...?
That commercial where the guy in the Nitro gives a jump start to the guy driving that old piece of s**t. Does anybody think that commercial is so fake. I think they launched the car up, made it looked damaged, and let it land back down to prove that the car is so powerful. It really isn't so powerful. I took a test drive, and the car barely got to 60.

A: who gives a shit!! it's a very funny commercial regardless what type of car is involved.

Q: Have you driven the new Dodge Nitro yet?
I've seen the ads on tv and the new ride looks awesome. I can't wait to get one.

A: I don't think they are actually out yet but the ads are really cool. I doubt they are cheap though

Q: does anyone own a dodge nitro?
Hubby is deployed overseas, and I would like to know more info before i go to dealers to find a new vehicle for him. (he asked me to) I was looking at this dodge nitro online, it comes in 6spd. manual and 4x4, does anyone own one? can you give me a price it cost for gas, and also how many miles you go? Do you like this vehicle? Does it have a manual 4x4 stick, our 95 honda passport has a extra gear shifter for the 4x4, and if not, what type of ''turn on''' does it have?(i.e. push button, shifter, get out and lock the hubs yourself...) I would love to hear from actual owners first, before buying a 21K vehicle. thanks 4 wheel drive is different from ALL wheel drive!! duh!!

A: I work at Toledo Jeep assembly plant,I have driven these inside the plant and they are very nice vehicles. If you plan on buying one,e-mail me and I will give you a number for the friends employee discount. It should save you about $2000 depending on vehicles price.

Q: Lost key for 2007 Dodge Nitro?
I have misplaced one of my keys for my 2007 Dodge Nitro. I called the dealer and they charge $230 to reprogram a new one. I investigated online and several people suggest that a person could buy a key on EBay and program it yourself. Has anyone here had any luck with that? I see the keys on EBay are $85.00 which would be a huge savings in this day.

A: To program the new key yourself, you will need TWO working keys. I found that out the hard way. I lost a key for my 2008 Ram, and bought one from an aftermarket dealer "Autotransponder" for way less than the dealer price. The key is identical to the factory key and it arrived very promptly. It came with clear instructions, unfortunatley you have to have to have two programmed keys. I took it to a locksmith and for about $75 they programmed it with the transponder codes and the door codes. Bit of a hassle, but still cheaper than Dodge! Don't bother with a cheap non-transponder key, as your engine will not run without the electronic signal. I found that out the hard way too! http://www.autotransponder.com/products.php?category_id=60

Q: Does anyone out there have a Dodge Nitro?
Is it a good vehicle? How much are they new? How much is the insurance on them? Tell me everything!!! lol

A: They are good cars. I don not own one, but I am a mechanic and have customers with them. If I were you, I would by a chevy or any GM for that matter.

Q: 2008 Dodge Nitro with door locking problems?
Ok so I've had the car for about four weeks and last weekend just found out the back door behind the Passenger side is not locking or unlocking with the key pad or when with the automatic locks. Its locked now because we pushed the lock down. What would make the door not lock?

A: a bad actuator will cause this too happen ,since its still under warranty take it back and get repaired for free, that's what the warranty is for and it should still be covered, good luck.

Q: Dodge Nitro, good or bad?
Hiya all, Anyone out there own a Dodge Nitro? If so can you tell me if you have any faults with it? Anything that you dislike? I just to confirm something, I am referring to the Nitro, the 4 x4. I put this in because someone has referred to it as 'a nice little vehicle' I just to confirm something, I am referring to the Nitro, the 4 x4. I put this in because someone has referred to it as 'a neat little vehicle'

A: their pretty fair vehicles to own ,my neighbor bought two of those and he likes them,i drove one of his around for a week or two and it didn't give any problems at all,gas mileage wasn't what i thought it should have been on it but other than that its a good vehicle, good luck.

Q: Which is better, 07 Jeep Compass or the 08 Dodge Nitro?
I have done lots of research on both and have come out about even with great and very bad reviews, so any personal experience or anything like that will help!! Thank You In Advance

A: I'd stay away from both. A Honda CR-V and Toyota RAV4 are better vehicles in almost every way. They're more reliable, they have better resale value, they have better ratings and reviews... If you're looking for an American brand, a Ford Escape would be a much better choice than anything from Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep.

Q: Dodge Nitro Invoice Pricing?
Is there anyway to find out the invoice price for a Dodge Nitro R/T? Where would I go to find something like this?

A: yes they have employee pricing now so dont worry about the invoice.
